Resolutions and pixel densities are from Apple's tech specs. Apple doesn't state an aspect ratio, so the ratios here are calculated from the pixel counts. The inner display's long side runs along the open width of the phone (164.6 mm), which is why we also list it as 2670×1878.
Reusing an iPhone 18 Pro Max wallpaper
The iPhone 18 Pro Max screen is 1320×2868, a tall 9:19.5-style shape. Filling the iPhone Duo screens with that image (scale until the screen is covered, crop the rest) gives:

Takeaway: a phone wallpaper is fine on the cover screen, but on the inner screen it gets soft from enlargement and loses most of its composition. Compose for the inner display from the start.
Using 4K desktop wallpapers
A 3840×2160 desktop wallpaper has far more pixels than the inner display needs and a shape much closer to it. Filling the open inner screen (2670×1878) keeps 80% of the image width and all of its height, with no enlargement (it is scaled down to 0.87×). On the tall cover screen only about 39% of the width survives, so pick a cover crop deliberately.
What source size do I need?
- Inner display: at least 2670×1878 (or 1878×2670 if you compose it in the listed orientation) to avoid enlarging.
- Cover display: at least 1398×2034.
- For one artwork on both screens, start from the larger inner size and crop the cover version from it.

Can I use my iPhone 18 Pro wallpaper on the iPhone Duo?

Do I need two wallpapers?
Only if you want the two screens to match. Each display has a different shape, so one image cannot be pixel-perfect on both; cut a separate export for each from the same artwork.
